Goodyear is a suburb of Phoenix, located within Maricopa County. As of 2015, the estimated population was just under 80,000. The city is growing quickly, though, as it had just over 65,000 residents at the 2010 census. The town was actually named after the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. They used a lot of farmland in the area in order to produce cotton. While cotton is not used too much in tires today, it used to be used heavily in the tire production. Back in 2008, the city won the All-American City award thanks to the National Civic League. One of Goodyear’s claims to fame is that it is home to the Goodyear Ballpark. This is where the MLB teams the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds hold their spring training. It’s also home to a campus of Franklin Pierce University, whose main campus resides in New Hampshire. The campus in Goodyear offers different healthcare-related programs.
