Plus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IVECO. Plus is a global self-driving technology. IVECO is a brand of CNH Industrial N.V. and a pioneer in the commercialization and manufacturing of vehicles powered by alternative fuels. The two companies, under the MOU, will work collaboratively to develop autonomous trucks that will be deployed across China, Europe, and other areas.
Autonomous Driving System
IVECO and Plus will integrate IVECO’s latest-generation S-WAY heavy-duty in conjunction with the PlusDrive full-stack autonomous driving system. This is under the terms of the nonbinding MOU. Moreover, the partners will also look into using IVECO’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) engine system to power the jointly developed autonomous trucks. Substantially reducing carbon emissions is what LNG-powered S-WAY trucks. In fact, it will also reduce unladen weight. Therefore, it will increase payload capacity.
Plus Embraces its Shared Vision with IVECO
“We share our vision for a safer and more sustainable future through autonomous trucks with IVECO, ” said Shawn Kerrigan, COO, and co-founder of Plus. “We are excited to partner with IVECO. Working together very closely, our teams, develop and deploy autonomous trucks. This includes one that is powered by natural gas. With over 160 countries, there is IVECO’s global footprint. It will enable us to move forward on our commercial deployment. Thus, dramatically magnify the impact of our autonomous driving technology.”
Plus Brings Its Strengths Together with IVECO’s to get Autonomous Trucks to the Market Fast
Moreover, IVECO has expertise in heavy-duty truck development. As well as manufacturing and sales. In fact, this brings much value to the partnership with Plus. Moreover, Plus has cutting-edge autonomous driving technology. This brings safe, fuel-efficient, scalable, and sustainable self-driving trucks to market quickly.
Goal of Fully Driverless Trucks
“There is a great opportunity partnering with Plus to move forward the development of the top levels of automation for heavy trucks,” said Marco Liccardo, chief technology, and digital officer for IVECO. “They are the perfect partner for our acceleration toward fully driveless trucks. Plus has technology leadership. They are non-linear thinkers. The company has the same key component suppliers.”
